Profile of Christ Church Matchborough

The desire amongst the leadership of Christ Church is for every member to own and be a part of the Vision. To this end there has been systematic teaching, courses and workshops with visiting speakers for some years. Members have a Vision Statement card which they have signed.

We prayer walked the area some time ago and then engaged in a Prayer Evangelism strategy. Every month an area of about 200 homes was prayed for and prayer walked with a series of prayer cards delivered to each home on a weekly basis. We personally made contact by knocking on the door of every home in the final week of the month. This strategy has borne fruit and will continue at specific times.

We are committed to making our Sunday morning services seeker friendly. This needs the involvement of every member to be actively praying for and building bridges with unchurched people. Sunday evenings are designed for believers where we seek to grow in worship and in the Word of God.

Humbling our hearts, repenting, seeking God's face in prayer are at the heart of the Church.

We are privileged to have a close link with a Church in Portugal and have other links in this country and around the world.

Activities:

  • Junior Church follows the Scripture Union Salt programme
  • We have growing youth work on Friday nights. There are two groups meeting: 7-11 years and 12-16 years of about 50 young people and 10 leaders. These are mainly unchurched youngsters. We run a yearly camp and Holiday Club.
  • Noah's Ark Nursery, comprising about 70 pre-school children uses the Church centre every weekday. The leader is a member of Christ Church and of the Church Council, and several of the staff are Church members. This nursery serves the local community and has an excellent reputation. The leaders meet with Rev. Andy and others every week to share and pray.
  • We have good links with all the local schools.
  • There is a monthly Men's Breakfast meeting.
  • There are Housegroups operating weekly
  • There is a time of prayer at Christ Church every weekday morning at 9.00 am and once a week on Tuesday evening at 7.00 pm.

Links:

We have links with a Christian orphanage in Kisumu, Kenya where members sponsor a child. We help to support Ann Glover, a missionary to a remote tribe in Northern Kenya, Pat Botwright, also in Kenya and Patricia Agbewornu in Uganda.

We have deep links with a Church in Setubal, Portugal, and with other ministries in the UK and in the USA. We are seeking to be more involved with Israel and support The Ebenezer Emergency Fund, The Elijah Prayer Army and The Joseph Storehouse.

We support C.A.R.E. Trust, C.A.R.E. for the Family, Tear Fund and the Suffering Church (Open Doors and Christian Solidarity), C.S.I. Worldwide, Barnabas Fund and Answers in Genesis.

A local Parent & Toddler Group uses the Church building weekly.

Development:

  • To see the Vision statement for the Church and for the town become more of a reality.
  • To see every member owning the vision and using their God-given gifts to fulfil it.
  • To deepen our links with God's people around the town, in the nation and across the world in line with God's Kingdom purposes.
  • To reach every age group with the Gospel and therefore to pray for and resource this.
  • To enable everyone at Christ Church Matchborough to remember that lost people matter to God and therefore must matter to us.

We now employ a Community/pastoral Care Worker, Phil Williams a local ex-Head Teacher. This involves linking with other agencies working in the area and seeing how we can co-operate together to input into issues such as poverty, parenting, drug abuse, loneliness etc. We now have greater links with schools in areas such as drug abuse and parenting.

The church is at the heart of the community. We hold courses throughout the week and meals for the elderly once a fortnight.
