Phil's Letter for August
Phil, on behalf of the Council, writes,
July has certainly been a month of outreach and activity. As I write we are in the middle of a Holiday Club for children between 5 & 11 years of age. Julie has built up an experienced team of helpers who have a wide variety of gifts and talents and the children who attend are having a great time. Some of the ways Scripture Union use to explain complex spiritual ideas are really helpful to us adults too.
As Christians we are invited to see ourselves as a sponge willingly being saturated, not with water but with the Holy Spirit and being put to great use by God in our communities.
The Family Fun Fest was a wonderful weekend where we were able to be a Blessing to the community and plan our activities in such a way that they were to open and accessible to this community. So many church members worked tirelessly on the Saturday doing all sorts o jobs to make the day a real success and our prayers were answered as we saw the people come and take part.
As Christians we are called to be God’s agents in His work of restoring the whole of creation and that includes restoring a sense of community and concern for our neighbours.
In the next few days a large group of young people will be heading off to Soul Survivor for a five day youth camp. Please pray that God will fulfil His purposes within this group.
Last week the Section 11 Parish meeting took place which formally establishes the procedures for the appointment of a new minister. During the next six weeks ministers will be invited to apply for our vacancy and hopefully an appointment will be made in the early Autumn.
Love to all,
Phil
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
The Christian Word Shop in St. Stephen’s Church is looking for volunteers with enthusiasm and commitment to join the current team of faithful and dedicated helpers for just one half day a week on a regular basis.
Please see Mike Mortimer if you are interested in joining the team.
