Phil's Letter for June

Phil, on behalf of the Council, writes:

One of the challenges of the interregnum we have frequently talked about as a church is the need for people to step forward and take on new roles.  As a result we have seen house groups leading one Sunday evening service a month and in doing so being a blessing to all who have attended. Last week Andrea and Joy led a review of the book of Esther.  The book tells the dramatic story of a plot to exterminate the Jewish people, and their deliverance through the courage and faith of a young Jewish lady.  This act is still celebrated by Jews today in the Feast of Purim.

Although the book of Esther is the only book in Scripture that contains no mention of God, it is certainly clear as you read the story that God is at work through the events and characters in the story.

As we read in Hebrews Chapter 3 v 8 “Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow” we can expect that, despite well recorded decline in church membership in this country, God is still alive and active in our community today.

He seeks to bring in His Kingdom and more in the lives of  individuals, whether they yet know Him as their saviour or not.  What this means for us as we seek to share the Good News is that we are called to be open to what God is already doing and to “get on board” with Him.  Next month, on July 10th & 11th, Tadgh is leading a major outreach in the community that needs us all to play our part.

Please pray that God will go before us and prepare the hearts of the people who will join in the activities, see the dramas and hear the message and may we have the discernment to see where God is moving in peoples’ lives and to demonstrate the love that God has for them.

Love to all,      Phil
